Republican Senators are expected to attend a posh resort for a GOP fundraiser during the shutdown, which means they’re blaming Democrats while they’re not even in DC to vote to open the government.

Instead of spending the weekend working the votes to try to reopen the government that closed down under a Republican trifecta of power, Republicans will be at the luxurious Sea Island Resort in Georgia to raise money for their party.

“The Senate will not be holding votes this weekend on reopening the government as was initially expected, as some Republican senators will be attending a high-dollar fundraising retreat for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) on Georgia’s Sea Island,” the Hill reported Friday.

While the government is shut down and Republicans are refusing to negotiate with Democrats about renewing the ACA tax credits, an “invitation to the NRSC’s fall meeting lists “group rates” for rooms at the resort ranging from $495 per night for a Garden Wing Room to $599 per night for the Beach Club One Bedroom Suite.”

They won’t open the government to pay federal workers, but they do have the willpower to raise funds for themselves at a fancy resort. Oh, and by the way, they are still getting paid and they are still getting their healthcare paid for by you.

That’s right. Somehow, these incompetent, selfish idiots who can’t manage to pass a budget (their literal job) managed to make sure they get paid when they pull these stunts. They did this via a permanent appropriation for their own pay.

So they play with your lives and your pay, but never their own. When it comes to their own pay, they are very serious.

We are told via the Hill that some Republicans are “nervous about the political optics of hanging out at a posh resort while the government is shut down” and some might skip it altogether.
