Here Is Why Trump Is Losing The Government Shutdown

Trump shut the government down, then continued construction on the White House ballroom, showing once again that he is the master of bad messaging that is losing the government shutdown.

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have been furloughed, and even those who are expected to continue working will not be getting paid.

A president who cared about the government being closed and the pain that it would cause the American people might show his sympathy through policy decisions and public displays of empathy.

Donald Trump doesn’t do empathy, or seem to recognize the existence of other human beings on the planet, or their problems and struggles.

Trump has been obsessed with creating a permanent monument to himself at the White House.

Since he returned to office, this president has been consumed by the notion that he will erase history and create a legacy.

What Trump doesn’t understand is that the individuals themselves don’t shape legacies. Much of his legacy as a failed and corrupt president has already been written.

Donald Trump has decided to handle this government shutdown by threatening programs and services in blue states and by not stopping construction on the White House ballroom that he is building.

ABC News reported:

Construction of the White House ballroom will continue through the government shutdown, according to a White House official.

“There will not be a stoppage of ballroom work when the shutdown occurs,” a White House official told ABC News.

As the White House Office of Management and Budget laid out in a memo last week, programs and projects with sources of funding not related to the appropriations that have lapsed will continue. The White House has previously said that the construction of the ballroom is funded by private donations.

“Work will continue to be performed as the funds currently supporting are not tied to a FY26 enacted appropriation,” the White House official said.

Anyone who has watched Trump for a second understands that this is exactly what he would do, which is why he and Republicans are already losing the government shutdown.
