I am not an attorney nor am I a paralegal, but I think Mr O’Donnell has a good point. Also, It is terrible that he can’t report this crime to anyone. Can he sue the Department of Homeland Security for unlawfully throwing him to the floor and cuffing him? Also, that caused him embarrassment and ridicule (by Republicans). I must say, as a former Republican and a Democrat since before the 2016 election, the Republicans have turned into a bunch of thugs.

Padilla should sue for either assault or false arrest. And not withdraw the suit. Show it to a jury.

O’Donnell is not only on point regarding Sen. Padilla, he’s always on point whatever his topic. He’s one of the few commentators I trust to give actual facts.

Much appreciated, Mr. O’Donnell! Senator Alex Padilla, Democrat from California, totally and unequivocally provided his complete name as he identified himself on purpose, before he asks some questions of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem during her press conference. By doing so, he is judged by the content of his character, and he deserves to have his day in court, thereby having Secretary Noem pay for her crime of having him arrested without legal cause and justification. I truly hope and aim that a federal judge takes up a case against Secretary Noem with what unfortunately happened to Senator Alex Padilla, himself. More importantly, he is a well-respected Senator whom Secretary Noem must have remembered and seen beforehand, because she originally had Senate confirmation, so this was absolutely uncalled for, in a nutshell. He deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, no question about it.

It was disgraceful what those officers did to the Senator, and I hope they are held to account.

Lawrence O'Donnell analyzes the news and reports the truth and because of that he is one of the most respected political commentators on TV.

And a quick note on a reference in your article:

"It is not a crime to be in the US illegally. It is a civil offense."

This needs to be repeated over and over again! Along with, undocumented NOT illegal.

1) I don’t know what a crime against democracy is, but this was certainly a crime against Senator Padilla.

2) This was not done because the administration is weak and failing. This was done because this is the kind of thing they have always wanted to do and they saw an opportunity and believe they can do this with impunity and are eager to demonstrate that publicly to the American people to perpetuate a culture of fear and to cow us into submission.

3) Senator Padilla absolutely must file charges regardless of his inclination to be diplomatic, deferential and supremely courteous to the administration and the agents who assaulted him. He is sending the wrong message to victims of sexual assault or any assault if he decides that because he may not be successful in convicting his attackers, for whatever reason, he should not even file charges. That would be its own metaphorical crime against all defendants, including his constituents being attacked by the same administration, especially in the current environment.

They would love for him not to file charges so that they don’t have to deal with it. He should also individually sue as nothing that happened in that clip is part of the job of the FBI, security, etc?

If there is not follow through on the charges until the regime is out of power, that is fjne, but it is critical to relentlessly document these crimes.

When a gang shows a pattern of criminal behavior attacking and assaulting lawmakers, people who value law and order should cut ties with that gang.

Lies are the means to continue the regime’s mind control. Force and intimidation to extinguish resistance. We now see 2025 is 1984, facilitated by a prolonged attack on American ideals and institutions. Those that have been successful in taking away our pride in the American experiment by pointing out how it has imperfections and ignoring its core values, have done a great disservice to us and the rest of mankind. When we forget who we were trying to be, we become what they can manipulate us to be. They have turned a people who valued freedom to live lives together, helping those who needed help, to people serving the rich and fighting amongst ourselves for the scraps they have not yet taken from us.
