Working Class Trump Voters Ready To Abandon GOP Over Tariffs
New polling shows that working class voters who voted for Trump in 2024 aren't buying what he is selling on tariffs, and they are ready to abandon the GOP if jobs don't come back fast.

The Working Class Knows Trump’s Tariffs Will Hurt Them
In 2024, exit polls show Donald Trump beat Kamala Harris by two points with voters making less than $50,000 a year, and by four points with voters making less than $100,000 a year (51%-47%).
Trump, with his delusional beliefs about tariffs, keeps selling them as bringing jobs back to the United States.
However, new polling as reported by Semafor, shows that working-class people aren’t buying it:
The Working Class Project, an American Bridge spinoff led by former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, surveyed 1,000 “working class voters” (most with a household income under $75,000) who broke for Trump in 2024. Fifty-nine percent said that the tariffs amounted to a “tax” on Americans and American companies, and 59% worried that “going back and forth” with tariffs on close allies would hurt the economy. Polling conducted for Fox News this week also found majority opposition to the tariffs, but the WCP’s polling found 50% support, from working class voters, for tariffs if they “[created] new manufacturing jobs.” That fell to 44% if the tariffs were in place for “as long as it takes.”
Working people understand that tariffs are a tax, and they hurt the economy by a margin of almost 6 in 10, and even if tariffs bring back manufacturing jobs, they only get up to a high of 50% support.
A majority of people making less than $75,000 seem to be smarter than Trump and his administration want to believe. They know that tariffs are going to harm them, not the wealthy, and since the Trump administration has admitted that the manufacturing jobs they want to bring to the US are automated, there are not going to be good jobs for working people, and that creates a big problem for the GOP.
So what happens next?
As Trump is running around having judges arrested and trying to assert power, beneath the surface the country is moving away from him, and close to flat out rebellion.
The situation has grown bigger than a specific issue like DOGE or Social Security. There is an overwhelmingly fundamentally un-American behavior coming out of the White House.
It is about a president tanking the economy unilaterally to make life worse. A president who is attacking American society itself.
Trump’s hardcore MAGAs will be with him, but even some of them are falling off of the train.
If the working-class voters who narrowly supported Trump in 2024 abandon ship, the entire mythology that Republicans pushed and many in the mainstream media adopted about Trump having a mandate will melt away.
What is becoming clear is that Democrats may have misjudged the electorate, panicked, and handed Trump the presidential election.
The country is increasingly becoming unified around its rejection of Donald J. Trump.
What do you think about the working class abandoning Trump? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.
Abandon and don’t look back because he cares about NO-One!!
They should have listened to his blather before the election. He told them what he was going to do and blast it all, he is, harming all of us. Abandon him but don't go back to the party that will NOT help us out of this mess
