Voters Are About To Hammer Trump And Republicans
The same energy that has been building in the No Kings protests looks like it showed up at the polls in New Jersey, New York City, and Virginia.
There have been warning signs that Republicans were in trouble since shortly after Trump took office for the second time.
Before he was president, Trump said that he wasn’t going to do anything about prices and inflation because it was a hard issue.
Within a month of taking the oath of office, Trump’s approval slid back into negative territory and has been descending fast ever since.
Three of the six biggest days of protest in US history have occurred during the first year of Trump’s second term.
Trump and Republican congressional leadership continued to claim that they had a mandate, but the rage at the president and his party has been relentlessly building.
People are angry and in an off off election year, they are showing up to vote.
According to CNN’s exit poll of Virginia:
47% of Virginia voters say Trump was not a factor in their vote, but of the remainder, 37% voted to “oppose Trump” vs just 15% to “support Trump.”
That is a very bad sign.
It gets even worse for Republicans in the state that they thought they had a chance to win.
A Democrat who flipped to Trump in 2024 said that he voted for Mikie Sherrill for governor because of the economy and Trump’s actions on immigration.
Video:
The Sherrill campaign says that Democrats are turning out to vote in even bigger numbers than they did in the state in 2024 in some key Democratic areas:
Democrats have one thing going for them in both New Jersey and Virginia that could make a big difference tonight.
