Both the victim’s family and LULAC are demanding independent investigations after Trump’s ICE shot another human being, this time a Mexican national named Lorenzo Salgado Araujo while he was on his way to work.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is justifying yet another shooting with eerily familiar claims.

ICE’s Sketchy Claims

"From information we are receiving, he rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused to follow multiple verbal commands, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense," an ICE spokesperson said in a statement to Houston Public Media.

“From information we are receiving” is incredibly passive and avoidant of accountability.

It begs questions:

Why don’t they have video they’ve reviewed or other evidence?

Why don’t they have the ability to review body cam footage (answer: they don’t wear body cams, question: if their activities are lawful, why not?)?

What about radio transmissions and surveillance footage?

Why are they relying on “information” they receive? Information from whom?

Where does the buck stop with a claim that is not attributed to any source and they are making clear they haven’t even verified?

Sure, it COULD be true. But ICE has a very bad history of being busted for lying about their victims in court. They have earned skepticism the hard way.

The ICE spokesperson said the man did not have “legal” status and the shooting occurred at around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 7th, during a "targeted enforcement operation."

Not for nothing, but “legal status” is irrelevant when it comes to fatally shooting a human being.

There have been MAGA commenters trying to justify this shooting by “asking” why Araujo wasn’t a citizen yet, as if somehow in a free country it’s perfectly fine to shoot to kill human beings who have lived and worked here for 35 years and are in the long process of trying to obtain legal authorization to work.
