Trump Tried To Turn Arab-American Leaders In Michigan MAGA
The 2024 presidential election is likely to come down to which candidate wins the Rust Belt states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Although the data suggests otherwise, Trump thinks that one of his best opportunities is in Michigan, which is why he peppers almost all of his speeches with the false claim that auto jobs are leaving the state. Trump has also tried and failed to get the endorsements of unions in Michigan.
However, one potential source of votes for Trump in the state could be Arab-Americans who are upset with President Biden’s policy on Israel and are demanding changes and more support for Gaza.
The Trump campaign sent their “shadow” Sec. of State Ric Grenell to Michigan to have dinner with Arab-American leaders, and we’ll let NOTUS report what happened next:
`According to two sources in attendance for the private dinner, Grenell came off as unsympathetic to the plight of Palestinians while actually angering some participants by reiterating a comment from Trump’s other son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who said in March that Israel should remove Palestinians from the valuable “waterfront property” in Gaza.
“He repeated Jared Kushner’s statement about beachfront property, which I think floated like a lead balloon in the room,” one of the meeting’s participants said of Grenell, who was Trump’s former acting director of national intelligence.
Another participant in the meeting stressed that Grenell kept saying how “brilliant” Trump was with his handling of the Abraham Accords, which were agreements Israel signed with certain Arab countries in 2020. But this person also mentioned that Kushner’s comments about turning Gaza’s waterfront property into world-class beaches fell flat.
Participants in the dinner said that Grenell repeated “Fox News stuff,” and he was called clueless on the Middle East. The Trump campaign was also not interested in criteria to get the support of the leaders, which included an immediate ceasefire, funding for the UN relief organization providing aid to Gaza, and defunding Israel’s war due to their human rights violations.
The Trump campaign did offer not to ban all Muslims.
We’ll talk about the impact on the 2024 campaign and the best path forward for those seeking a ceasefire below.
