Trump's Sentencing Was An Embarrassment To The Nation
Sure, Donald Trump is officially a convicted felon, but his sentencing was such an embarrassment that even the judge pointed out that it wasn't normal.

Trump’s Sentencing Was A National Disgrace
For years, the legal experts took over political media and told the American people that the rule of law would do what the United States Senate refused to do with two separate impeachment trial votes and hold Trump accountable.
The United States is supposedly a democratic model for the world. The alleged land of opportunity where everyone has a chance to rise up was not going to put Donald Trump ahead of the law. The lawyer crowd told us as they filled endless hours of cable news and other media with opinions, analyses, and views of a reckoning that would be coming for Trump.
Here’s the thing about lawyers. They understand the law but not politics.
One by one, as legal cases against Trump evaporated, the lawyers still reassured that New York would come through.
Today was sentencing day for Donald Trump in New York, and what were the big consequences for being convicted of 34 felonies?
Absolutely nothing.
Even Judge Merchan had to point out that this sentence was not normal:
It is clear from legal president, which until July 1st was scarce, that Donald Trump, the ordinary citizen, Donald Trump, the criminal defendant, would not be entitled to such considerable protection.
I'm referring to protections that extend well beyond those afforded the average defendant, who winds their way through the criminal justice system each day. No, ordinary citizens do not receive those legal protections. It is the office of the President that bestows those far reaching protections to the officeholder.
And it was the citizenry of this nation that recently decided that you should once again receive the benefits of those protections, which include, among other things, the Supremacy Clause and presidential immunity. It is through that lens and that reality that this court must determine a lawful sentence.
After careful analysis, in obedience to governing mandates, and pursuant to the rule of law, This court has determined that the only lawful sentence that permits entry of a judgment of conviction without encroaching upon the highest office in the land is an unconditional discharge.
