Trump’s Plot To Rig Georgia Gets Shut Down
Georgia was always the central piece to Trump’s plan to steal the 2024 election. After the state got him indicted in multiple cases, Trump and his allies stacked the Georgia election board with supporters who then set out to pass a series of rules that were designed to block certification of the state’s election results.
A Republican sued over those rules, and won in lower in court, and now the Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the lower court’s ruling.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported:
The Georgia Supreme Court unanimously denied the Republican Party’s attempt Tuesday to reinstate State Election Board rules for an election night ballot count and a “reasonable inquiry” requirement before certifying results.
The high court’s one-page order leaves in place a Fulton County judge’s ruling last week that seven new election rules are “illegal, unconstitutional and void.”
The Republican Party of Georgia and the Republican National Committee had asked the court for an expedited appeal before Election Day, but the Georgia Supreme Court declined to grant the request. The court didn’t write a reason. The order noted the appeal can proceed on a normal schedule.
Donald Trump was so confident in the MAGA election board that he even introduced each of the MAGA board members by name at one of his rallies in the state and thanked them.
Trump thought that he had Georgia in his back pocket. The state would be the chaos driver that would allow him to block certification of the election results and throw the election to the House where Republicans could name him the winner, even if Kamala Harris won.
That was going to be the plan, but now the plan is dead, so let’s take a look at what this result means for democracy.
