Trump's Meet The Press Interview Was A Disgrace
Meet The Press hosted Trump for an interview that was an embarrassment to journalism and the country.

Ripping on Meet The Press has become a hobby for people who still watch the Sunday shows. The shows rarely have the top newsmakers anymore, and when they do land one, as Meet The Press did when they interviewed Donald Trump, they usually drop the ball.
Some long for the days of Tim Russert, which are increasingly viewed with nostalgia that often forgets that Russert played the DC media game better than anyone. People often only remember Russert’s one or two tough questions in his interviews, but they forget that most of his work was as fluffy as Kristen Welker or Chuck Todd. Russert built his legend on those few tricky questions, but for decades the Sunday shows have been Republican-heavy fluff fests, so the bar was low for the Meet The Press interview with Trump.
There was something newsworthy in the Trump interview that is being ignored by the mainstream.
Trump admitted that he has no plan to lower prices. He won’t guarantee that people won’t pay more under his administration.
Here is the transcript:
KRISTEN WELKER: Economists of all stripes say that ultimately consumers pay the price of tariffs.
PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP:
I don’t believe that.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Can you guarantee American families won’t pay more?
PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP:
I can’t guarantee anything. I can’t guarantee tomorrow. But I can say that if you look at my — just pre-Covid, we had the greatest economy in the history of our country. And I had a lot of tariffs on a lot of different countries, but in particular China. We took in hundreds of billions of dollars and we had no inflation. In fact, when I handed it over, they didn’t have inflation for a year and a half. They went almost two years just based on what I had created. And then they created inflation with energy and with spending too much. So I think we will — I’m a big believer in tariffs. I think tariffs are the most beautiful word. I think they’re beautiful. It’s going to make us rich.
