The First 100 Days
Incoming presidents are thought to be at the height of their momentum and political capital when they first come into office. Historically speaking, public approval of the new president is usually at its highest when the new administration first takes office.
The first 100 days of a president’s term have been the benchmark for success since FDR. The media loves the first 100 days. Many stories are written and discussed about what a president has accomplished in their first 3 months plus in office.
Presidential administrations know that, just like buying a new car, they start to lose their value immediately after being driven off the lot.
Instead of comparing what presidents did hundreds of years ago in their first 100 days, let’s look at the more modern example of Barack Obama. In his first 100 days, Obama got a stimulus package through Congress, expanded the Children’s Health Insurance Program, signed the Lily Ledbetter Equal Pay Act, Closed GITMO, and banned torture.
Biden’s first 100 days were focused COVID and the pandemic, but he did sign the $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill. The Biden administration’s bigger successes would come later.
Trump is not expected to have that kind of success.
