Trump's Dream Of Rigging The Midterm Election Is About To Die In The Senate

The Save Act is coming to the Senate floor next week, and while there will be a lengthy debate, Republicans and Democrats agree that Trump's bill to rig the midterm election is dead.

Donald Trump has tried many different ways to rig the midterm election. Trump has tried to pressure states into turning over their voter rolls so that the DOJ can conduct a massive voter purge. Trump signed a voting executive order that was laughed out of court.

Trump insisted on a gerrymandering scheme that may result in gaining seats for Democrats, and his latest ploy is to try to force the Senate to pass a massive voter suppression bill called the SAVE Act.

There is one very large problem. Zero Democrats support the SAVE Act, and it will need 60 votes to clear a Senate filibuster to proceed to a final vote.

The president’s solution to this problem has been to pressure Republicans into changing the filibuster rules to pass the SAVE Act in the Senate with a majority vote, but Republicans don’t want to change the filibuster rules because they are terrified of what Democrats will pass when they get the majority if the filibuster is gone.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has been saying for months that the math isn’t there for the SAVE Act but reality has never stopped Trump and his fans from making demands, so the SAVE Act will be coming to the Senate floor next week.

However, the SAVE Act is doomed, as we will discuss below.
