Trump's Deployment Of ICE To Airports Will Be A Disaster
ICE didn't know they were being sent to help out airports where there aren't enough TSA workers, and because, they are unqualified, the scheme has the potential to give ICE agents what they deserve.
If you have ever had to stand in a TSA line at the airport, you know that air travelers can get more than a little cranky while going through the security process.
Trump announced that he was sending ICE to airports to help with the security lines that are now stretching for more than three hours. The problem is that the president told the rest of the country this without notifying ICE.
You might be thinking to yourself, what do ICE agents know about TSA policies and airport security?
The answer seems to be not much, but Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy admitted during an interview with ABC’s This Week, the point of sending ICE to airports:
Democrats want to see long lines at airports as leverage. President Trump’s trying to take that leverage away and not make the American people suffer. So, if we can bring in other assets and tools to assist TSA to get rid of these lines, yes, I think that makes a lot of sense. And the president’s looking around every corner to make sure the American people don’t suffer during the shutdown.
The Trump administration seems more interested in making the lines look better on TV than in bringing in qualified people who know how to perform airport security duties.
There is an easier solution to the problem that Republicans created, and we’ll discuss below why ICE is likely to be a disaster in airports.
