One area of frustration for the House Select Committee investigating the 1/6 attack was that they were not able to get full access to Trump’s phone records. The committee found that the records were illegally deleted, and Trump made phone calls on 1/6 using multiple phones in violation of the Presidential Records Act. The Committee had to reverse-engineer and piece together who Trump was talking to before and during the attack, using other sources of information.

The 1/6 Committee was so effective that Trump and his allies are still trying to erase their work from history.

As part of Trump’s campaign to rewrite the history of his attempted coup after the 2020 election, Trump has sued the BBC for defamation after they aired some footage of his speech on 1/6 that the president has claimed was edited.

Because the BBC can’t be shaken down or threatened like CBS and ABC were, Trump’s attempt to get some easy cash has turned into a total backfire.

Since Trump sued for defamation over events related to 1/6, the BBC has used discovery to request financial records from him, his family, and his trust.

The BBC has also requested documents related to Trump’s activities before the 1/6 attack, and now the broadcaster wants Trump’s phone records.
