Trump's Approval Rating Still Hasn't Hit Rock Bottom

Trump's approval ratings hit a record low, but he still has even more room to fall, which is great news for Democrats.

Donald Trump hit a new record low approval rating. That isn’t the biggest surprise given that Trump is the least popular president in the history of polling, but what isn’t being discussed is that Trump isn’t just losing with the voters you might be expecting him to lose with (Independents, young voters, Latinos); he is also losing his base.

There are different ways that candidates can win presidential elections. A candidate can expand their base of support, or they can build a coalition.

In 2024, Trump did neither.

Trump won because voters who were upset about the economy swung toward him.

Those voters were always conditional.

Trump had to fix the economy, or else they would be gone.

Trump has repaired the economy by dousing it with gasoline and setting it on fire.

I have written and spoken for years about my belief that the real end for Trump would come if his supporters ever started to peel off and leave him.

MAGA has been shrinking over the last decade, so even a small loss among his supporters would be amplified.

That loss is starting to happen.
