Trump promised Americans that they wouldn’t pay for the tariffs, so how dare Jeff Bezos show Americans that they are paying for the tariffs.
“This is a hostile and political act by Amazon,” Karoline Leavitt told a reporter Tuesday morning during a White House briefing when asked about Amazon’s new policy of showing the Trump tariff price in checkout.
“I’ve never met more incompetent people in my whole life,” founder of Tolou Capital Management Spencer Hakimian wrote above the video.
Question and Answer:
Reporter: So it was reported this morning that Amazon will soon display a little number next to the price of each product that shows how much the Trump tariffs are adding to the cost of each product. So isn't that a perfect, crystal clear demonstration that it's the American consumer, and not China who is going to have to have to pay for these policies.
Karoline Leavitt: I will take this since I just got off the phone with the President about Amazon's announcement. This is a hostile and political act by Amazon.
Why didn't Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years? And I would also add that it's not a surprise, because, as Reuters recently wrote, Amazon, Amazon has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm.
So this is another reason why Americans should buy American it's another reason why we are on shoring critical supply chains here at home, to shore up our own critical supply chain and boost our own manufacturing.
Reporter: Is Bezos still a Trump supporter?
Leavitt: Look I will not speak to the President's relationships with Jeff Bezos but I will tell you that this is certainly a hostile and political action by Amazon and secretary if you have anything.
The reality here is Trump doesn’t want a line item showing consumers the amount tariffs are adding to their bill because he lied to the American people and told them China (etc) would pay the price hike.
But Leavitt’s snarky deflect attack impugn and smear response is also a dizzying display of Trump’s number one rule: Never, ever admit responsibility.
Number two rule: What Trump says is ‘truth’, irrespective of reality.
The added spice of the whiny dragging and blaming of the former President reveals the incredibly immature nature of this president. He simply cannot let a grudge go, even in formal, highly managed settings.
Trump has been blaming Biden for inflation for years now, as Biden tried to — and comparatively to other industrialized nations did — steer the U.S. out of the most treacherous economic waters during and following the pandemic.
