As Democratic momentum is growing toward the midterm election, Donald Trump is moving closer to open warfare with segments of his own party.

Senate Republicans have a four-seat majority. Trump has managed to get two of his party’s senators defeated or soon to be defeated in primaries (Cornyn and Cassidy), chased one into retirement (Tillis), and has ushered another foe out the door (McConnell).

Do the math, and this all adds up to Republicans no longer having a solid Senate majority.

When Trump decides that he wants taxpayers to pay for his ballroom, there are now enough Republicans to say no.

Trump’s latest corrupt act was to create a DOJ slush fund to pay those who tried to help him overthrow the government.

Trump is demanding the right to do whatever he wants. Senate Republicans want to pick the commissioners who oversee the fund and set up conditions for who can apply.

Republicans want to use the reconciliation bill that was supposed to fund ICE and border patrol to kill Trump’s slush fund and ballroom dreams.

However, the White House is threatening to veto funding for ICE and border patrol if Trump doesn’t get his money.

It's all an insane showdown that looks like the Republican Party is tearing itself apart.
