Trump Sets Republicans Up For Political Disaster By Blowing Off Grocery Prices
Trump admitted that he lied about lowering groceries, but it is the Republican Party that will pay the price.

If all politics are local, or in 2024, pocketbook, the one issue that is rarely discussed and that decided the outcome of the recent election is one that touches every person in the country in some fashion: grocery prices.
The American people have been angry about the rising cost of food since COVID.
Two things can be true at the same time. It is possible that the economy, from a macro point of view, is very good. It is also true that rising prices, inflation, and the cost of food made people feel that their own personal micro-economies weren’t so great.
Democrats were dealt a bad hand, and Republicans knew it.
Trump ran explicitly on lowering inflation and the cost of food, but now that he has won, he has changed his tune.
Here is what Trump told Time about lowering grocery prices:
Trump’s victory in November may be partly the product of short memories. For his part, Trump puts faith in his negotiating abilities. “We can use the same words,” he says, “but maybe it’s a look in your eye that works.” Yet already, the President-elect is moving the goalposts on some of his pledges, like lowering the price of groceries. “It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up,” Trump says. “You know, it’s very hard.”
This is the guy who spent the entire campaign telling people that he was going to lower the cost of food and complaining about the price of bacon.
Now that he has won, and voters expect him to get rid of inflation and lower grocery prices, Donald Trump is telling them no can do, which means that an angry country will not get what they voted for.
Instead, the billionaires who backed Trump are going to get big tax cuts, and immigrants, legal and illegal, are facing deportation.
Trump told the truth. There is little that any president can do to lower grocery prices. This is why Democrats never had a plan to lower prices. Outside of Harris saying that she would take on corporate greed and price gouging, the tools in the policy toolbox for lowering prices are limited.
Democrats were running against a pathological liar who was also facing multiple criminal trials. Donald Trump was desperate and would do or say anything to win. Trump was willing to promise voters that he could return the economy to the days before COVID if that was what it took to stay out of jail.
