Trump Isn't In Office Yet, But Is Showing Signs Of Failure
Elon Musk DOGE Committee has no power and now is being warned that any recommendation to cut Social Security and Medicare isn't going to fly.
Trump And Musk’s DOGE Committee Fraud Takes Another Blow
When Trump talked about Elon Musk heading up a committee to cut government spending, he made it sound like Musk would have an official government role.
Then it was revealed that the committee wouldn’t be Musk’s alone. Elon Musk has to share with Vivek Ramaswamy. The committee was also set up as a private advisory committee with no official powers. The committee can only offer recommendations, and to top it off, the point person in the House for the committee is Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
The committee is nothing like Trump promised, and now members of Congress, like Rep. Ro Khanna, are underlining how irrelevant the committee is.
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) told CNN’s Jim Acosta when asked about Musk’s DOGE committee:
Ultimately, they're gonna provide recommendations. It's Congress that appropriates money. Let me provide an area where there could make be bipartisan collaboration. I mean, the defense budget, which is nearly a trillion dollars, is dominated by five primes. There has been tremendous reporting about the waste, fraud and abuse in that budget.
The Pentagon hasn't passed an audit and has failed the last six or seven audits. So if they go to say there needs to be more open competition, not the monopolization and defense contractors and proposed recommendations, that's something that I think could be supported if they find areas of truly wasteful spending across the government, they would get support.
But if they start to recommend cuts in Social Security, Medicare, or Title One education funding, they'll face strong resistance. So it really just depends on what they recommend.
