Trump Is Today, But Democrats Are The Future

Democrats don't have a leader for the first time since 1992, and that is a good thing.

Democrats Have No Leader For The First Time Since 1992

The Democratic Party is currently in an unfamiliar position. There is no leader, no next-in-line favorite to be the 2028 presidential nominee, and no Barack Obama is waiting in the wings. Democrats have a lot of young talent but don’t have a favorite to be their nominee in four years.

The Democratic Party of 2024 is, talent-wise, in much better shape than in 1992. Democrats have popular governors like Josh Shapiro and Gretchen Whitmer waiting in the wings to run for president. There is a flock of young House Democrats working their way through the ranks. The Senate is a little thin and older than the rest of the Democratic rising stars, so 2028 might be a primary where the next nominee doesn’t come from the Senate.

In 1992, Bill Clinton benefited from using his immense political skills to run on the economy at a time when George H. W. was wrestling with a recession.

However many more years Trump has left on this earth, by 2028, the nation will be hungry for a new direction and younger voices.

Not having a leader ready to be the favorite will allow the party to elevate some new voices and ideas.

2024 happened because Democrats as a party never found an effective message on inflation, which was the one issue that voters cared most about. Democrats didn’t do anything wrong on inflation. They got stuck with it, and now inflation will be Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s problem.
