It's not what I think about him, because I don't, but what the hell is wrong with Americans??? Why the hell aren't we out in the streets by the millions? All these small protests with a few thousand people mean shit to him. If you brought it by the millions to the Capitol, then you are talking and doing. He, up to this point, is laughing at these small protests. You need organization, collaboration, and unity. Not several different groups doing their own version. Wake Up.

The answer to your question lies in polls taken over the last two or three years. A significant portion of the American population has shown that they're ok with the description of an authoritarian government. Some have said publicly that perhaps we need a "strongman" in the White House. And when you combine this with the rabid support of Trump's supporters you have a recipe for the fall of democracy in this Country.

Sadly, this may be true and hard to accept. Americans have become lazy and disconnected from reality. Since the end of WWII, America has not had any real threats to our way of life. The younger generations will pay the price. I know my generation would have shut this down. I will keep trying to make people aware. If this continues, there will be no more living large for many.

I'm 78 years old. Watching the destruction of the Republic in real time is almost surreal. More importantly, it's downright scary. Trump is going to try to destroy the electoral process and the GOP in states like Pennsylvania are working hard to do the same.

I am physically unable to march. However, I can vote and I send donations to Democratic candidates in many states outside of my own.

You are exactly right. Americans are lazy and selfish. That don't care and won't care until they are directly impacted. Complaining about rising prices isn't enough. Ignoring deportations because someone looks different and may speak with an accent? They don't care. No one is angry enough! But if we aren't careful and protests yield violence then we are facing martial law. Complacency is going to mean death for our republic. What will it take to save us? I have no idea. A nationwide strike? Not enough people care. Yet.

The person who created this meme has a poor understanding of U.S. military history. The Apocalypse Now wording and imagery refers to the Viet Nam war, a costly mistake in judgement and continuing impact - a war the U.S. definitely did not WIN. The crossed swords/guns on the hat refers to the Confederate army's crossed guns logo, and flag of a large X - a war they definitely did not WIN. dt likes to WIN, so it is puzzling that he would repost an image of war losses. The mayors and governors, who are objecting to and overcoming his attempts to occupy Democratic cities, have a clear understanding of history, how federal governance works, and the functions of a president. It is also puzzling that here, dt's apparent image is wearing President Biden's trademark shades. jes sayin. . . .

Chicago will need to enforce civil laws with civilian police. Any National guard from another state that are not legally deployed in Illinois, can maybe be cited as individual citizens for gun law violations (open carry, licensed carry, magazine capacity), jay walking, littering, moving vehicle violations, parking violations, impersonating law enforcement, etc. citing, confiscating illegal weapons, vehicles, setting court dates, bail terms, etc. This seems like a good starting approach if the laws allow.

It’s really hard to get much traction around my locale, but I started a new approach.. when store clerks ask the inevitable “How are you today?” instead of a bland “fine” I’ve tried saying, “are you kidding? With what’s going on right now? Mixed reactions, I try for the younger people. No one has taken up the question, just shrugs, eye rolls and “whatever, gramps”. Seems like it could only take one a day, or week at least. This is why it’s not happening, the tanks are not rolling through high downtowns yet. But college towns are or will be targeted.

I might start bringing up martial law and see how that flies.
