Trump Is So Unpopular That He's Caused The Texas Gerrymander To Backfire
Republicans thought that if they gave themselves a 10-point cushion in the Texas gerrymander, it would net them 5 House seats, but Trump is so unpopular that 10 points isn't enough.
The whole point of the Texas gerrymander was to give Republicans more House seats so that they would keep their House majority in 2026.
The idea to risk House districts to make the midterm election a sham came from Donald Trump.
Trump demanded that Texas Republicans redraw the maps to give him five more House seats. Republicans in the state complied, but as with many things in life, the devil is in the details.
Texas Republicans made two assumptions. First, they assumed that Trump’s gains with Latino voters in 2024 were real, and they assumed that giving themselves a ten-point advantage in the gerrymandered districts would be enough to flip the seats from red to blue.
Both Republicans’ assumptions have turned out to be wrong.

This policy has not gone over well with the Latino voters who supported Trump in 2024. In fact, it has been an absolute trainwreck that has pushed Texas Latino voters back to the Democratic Party.
