MAGA Did Not Win The Election For Trump
People tend to think that it was MAGA and the far right that powered Trump to victory, but according to Navigator Research, exit polls show that MAGA only made up 38% of the electorate.
If it wasn’t MAGA delivering victory to Trump, who was it?
The answer is swing voters.
Trump beat Harris by 8 points with voters who considered voting for both candidates.
According to Navigator Research:
“Swing voters” — defined here as those who did not rule out voting for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris from the start of the campaign — largely delivered Trump’s victory, voting for the former president by 8 points. 41 percent of “swing voters” supported Donald Trump and 33 percent supported Kamala Harris, with the remainder voting for third-party candidates (22 percent) or skipping the presidential election on their ballot (4 percent).
While their vote in the presidential election leaned Republican, swing voters were split in Senate races (44 percent Democratic candidate – 44 percent Republican candidate) and House races (45 percent Democratic candidate – 45 percent Republican candidate), and broke narrowly for Democratic candidates in gubernatorial races by 4 points (45 percent Democratic candidate – 41 percent Republican candidate).
55% of these swing voters were under age 45, and 42% were young men.
These voters were extremely sour on the economy, and they held Harris responsible for what they viewed as a bad economy.
This group of voters is not heavily engaged with the news. They aren’t watching cable news or reading websites. These are people who generally don’t pay much attention to politics. They heard Trump say that the economy is bad. They agreed and voted for him, with the idea that he would make things better for them.
Trump is planning a presidency different from what voters expect; the two are on a collision course that won’t end well for Trump and his party.
