Trump Is Going To Fail, So Let's Start Building For The Future
Finger pointing is pointless. If we are being honest, just like his first term, Trump's second term is going to fail which means the rest of us must start building for the future.
Let’s Not Point Fingers
Sarah wrote a beautiful newsletter yesterday that we made free for everyone because it is important to read. I shared her feelings and agreed with everything she expressed, but I also felt angry.
As Sarah and I wrote when Biden was pushed out, the people who were certain that Biden had to go had better win.
They didn’t. The election was an unmitigated disaster.
I don’t blame Vice President Harris. She was thrust into an impossible situation and did more than anyone thought she could. I don’t blame Joe Biden. The Democratic Party was facing an angry electorate that is still not recovered from the pandemic. All the talk about grocery prices and inflation was really code for why things haven’t returned to normal yet, and that is a question that can’t be easily answered.
As I wrote for months before the election, Trump’s one chance of winning was to turn 2024 into a low-turnout version of 2016, and that is what happened.
15 million 2020 Democratic voters didn’t show up. Trump got 10 million fewer votes than in 2020. More than 25 million voters just looked at 2024 and decided to sit it out.
Did they sit it out due to election-day bomb threats, voter suppression, lack of enthusiasm about the candidates, or general apathy?
We’re probably never going to get a good answer. What we do know is that billionaires came together to use their power to help Donald Trump. The billionaires want power. They want a deregulated United States and they want the federal government to work for them and them alone.
This is all going to happen.
Pointing fingers is a complete waste of time. Some of the people who work for Biden are blaming Harris and some Harris people are blaming Biden. It is the usual post-election game, but the reality is that the electorate was angry and discouraged, and this may have been an election that Democrats would struggle to win no matter who was at the top of the ticket.
It is ok to be angry, scared, bummed out, or just plain fed up with it all.
Finger-pointing doesn’t solve anything.
We also know something else.
Donald Trump is going to fail.

The competent people in Trump’s administration last time won’t be there this time.
Trump will have a collection of billionaires, right-wing loons, and various true believers in the government.
