Republicans Appear To Be Using Russian Misinformation To Accuse Biden Of Bribery
The claim by Rep. James Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley that they needed to investigate Biden for a bribery scheme that they think happened while he was vice president appeared in the headlines on Wednesday, but that allegation wasn’t new.
House Oversight Committee ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) showed where it came from, “Committee Republicans are recycling unsubstantiated claims floated by Senate Republicans by issuing a subpoena to the FBI to require the release of a June 2020 tip from an unknown informant. During this same time period, Rudy Giuliani and Russian agents, sanctioned by Trump’s Treasury Department, were peddling disinformation aimed at interfering in the 2020 presidential election. Given Chair Comer’s commitment to ‘dismantle’ the FBI, it’s no surprise that he would rely on these unverified tips to attack President Biden in one more baseless partisan stunt.”
Something else happened around the same time that wasn’t a coincidence.
In an interview with Brexit disaster maker and Russian helper Nigel Farage, Trump repeated his claim that he can end the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 24 hours if he is elected president again, but he added a few cryptic details that made his claim sound less like a campaign issue and more like a plea to Putin for 2024 election help, which we will discuss below.
