Over the weekend, Donald Trump claimed Iran wanted a ceasefire, but Iran denied the U.S. President’s assertion. There is no sign yet that the Iranian regime is collapsing, in spite of claims of victory by Trump and his rabidly dedicated cheerleaders.

It’s becoming more and more undeniable that Donald Trump started a war in Iran without a strategy. He’s ricocheted from demanding help from the same allies he’s been attacking with tariffs and insults to declaring the war won and back to demanding help from estranged allies and now from the very same NATO he’s spent his second term undermining and attacking.
For example, it seems he wasn’t expecting the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which belies a childish, video-game level understanding of the factors at play when he attacked Iran.
Now Trump is demanding that NATO and allies help the US, trying to make the case that their interests are now at risk following a blockade by Iran that has halted regional oil transit through the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20–21 million barrels of crude oil, condensate, and petroleum products pass through per day (based on 2024–2025 estimates). This accounts for over 20% of global petroleum liquids consumption and makes it the world's most crucial oil transit chokepoint.
Trump’s wildly erratic and senseless behavior is on display for the world’s media. Unlike too much of our own Trump-captured media, they are not all buying into MAGA delusions as legitimate discussion.
“My instincts and what knowledge I have leads me to the conclusion that Starmer should do as little as he possibly can, up to and including or down to and including nothing at all, because Donald Trump is an idiot,” LBC’s James O’Brien said on Monday.
“He is a dangerous, delinquent idiot. We can dress it up as much as we want. We can talk about compromise. We can talk about Epstein. We can talk about the absence of a plan. We can talk about Benjamin Netanyahu having Donald Trump for reasons I don't fully understand or necessarily agree with, but Marco Rubio seemed to suggest that Netanyahu has him by the short and curlies, but all of that gets filed under idiot. He is an idiot. He is a dangerous, delinquent idiot who is now waging war in one of the world's most historically volatile Tinder boxes with no legal rationale, no plan and no end objective.”

O’Brien was right to focus on the reality rather than the way Trump’s actions are frequently “dressed up” by the media, who ascribe motives and clever bargaining tactics to a man who is not even known to read.
