Trump Humiliated By Republicans And Democrats On Tariffs

Six House Republicans voted with Democrats to terminate Trump's tariffs against Canada in the biggest sign yet that that is quickly becoming open season on Trump.

Trump’s tariffs have never been popular, but for nearly a year, Republicans in the House have been going along for the ride because they were worried about their political futures if they crossed the president.

As Trump is becoming more commonly viewed as a political liability, Republicans are beginning to break away from him.

On Wednesday evening, the House voted 219-211 to terminate Trump’s tariffs against Canada. The six House Republicans who voted with Democrats were Thomas Massie, Don Bacon, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jeff Hurd, Kevin Kile, andy Dan Newhouse

This vote was important, not only for the number of House Republicans who broke away from Trump, but also for the message it sent to the Supreme Court, as they are expected to release a decision on the legality of Trump’s tariffs at any time.

The Supreme Court is supposed to look at the legislative intent of Congress when weighing issues such as disputes of constitutional authority.

The question is, what did Congress intend to do?

Congress has made its intention 100% clear with this vote on ending the tariffs against Canada.

The White House knew they would lose some Republicans on Tuesday's vote, once the rule that forbade any criticism or resolutions against the tariffs was ended, but they did not want to lose as many as they did, and the result was an angry Trump threatening members of his own party.
