Trump Has Taken Over CBS And Put A 'Bias Monitor' In Place Who Reports To Him

As part of the Skydance acquisition of CBS, a bias monitor that will report to Trump has been put into place to monitor the network's coverage.

The Skydance acquisition of CBS has been full of red flags and alarm bells from the moment the deal was announced. Stephen Colbert’s top-rated late-night show has been canceled by CBS. The network settled a bogus lawsuit by Trump to get the administration to approve the transaction. There are also reports that CBS has pledged to give millions of dollars in public service announcements to Trump's causes.

However, when the FCC approved the merger, Trump’s FCC Chair Brendan Carr made it clear that CBS’s independence was gone.

Carr said in a press release:

Americans no longer trust the legacy national news media to report fully, accurately, and fairly. It is time for a change. That is why I welcome Skydance’s commitment to make significant changes at the once storied CBS broadcast network. In particular, Skydance has made written commitments to ensure that the new company’s programming embodies a diversity of viewpoints from across the political and ideological spectrum.

Skydance will also adopt measures that can root out the bias that has undermined trust in the national news media. These commitments, if implemented, would enable CBS to operate in the public interest and focus on fair, unbiased, and fact-based coverage. Doing so would begin the process of earning back Americans’ trust. Today’s decision also marks another step forward in the FCC’s efforts to eliminate invidious forms of DEI discrimination. And Skydance’s commitment to enhancing local news and reporting—coverage valued by the public—will also inure to the benefit of the American people.

Carr made it clear on Newsmax that Trump will be overseeing the coverage on CBS, “ One of the things they're gonna have to do is put it on Budsman in place for two years. So basically a bias monitor that will report directly to the president. So that's something that's significant.”

A ‘bias monitor’ is another term for someone who will be shaping the content at CBS, and notice that the bias monitor doesn’t seem to be limited to CBS News. Trump appears to be taking control of overseeing all programming at CBS, and making sure that it is sufficiently pro-MAGA.

It was obvious where this situation was going from the moment that Paramount settled the 60 Minutes lawsuit.

The lawsuits are Trump’s way of controlling the media. The lawsuits are not the end game. They are the first step toward Trump getting control of the free press. It worked with CBS because Paramount needed the merger approved by the Trump administration.

Make no mistake, Trump does want to implement the same model for all the networks. The ‘bias monitor’ at CBS will only be in place for two years, which is not a coincidence. If Democrats win the midterm election, they will take back power in all or part of Congress in about a year and a half. Trump will leave office in January 2029.

Donald Trump is trying to erode the First Amendment and turn CBS into an arm of the state.

The First Amendment is in danger, not from Donald Trump, but from the willingness of America’s biggest media outlets to appease Trump.
