The Media Normalizes An Attempted Coup

The normalization of Trump has been an ongoing problem with the corporate-owned mainstream media. If we had a dollar for each time that someone at a mainstream outlet gave Trump credit for using his indoor voice and proclaimed that this was the moment that he became presidential, we would all be very rich.

No matter how abnormal Trump’s behavior became, there was always somebody in the media trying to make it seem like this was all normal. What president hasn’t speculated that injecting disinfectant into the American people might be a way to get rid of COVID? See? Totally normal.

Trump could hold press conferences where he didn’t allow questions to be asked, and some in the media would praise his availability.

The media spent four years of the Trump presidency trying to normalize a dangerous political freak show. Given this context, it isn’t surprising that with Trump once again running for the presidency, the media has chosen to overlook that he once tried to carry out a coup and overthrow the United States government.
