What is the legal justification for Trump’s war in Iran? There is an Office of Legal Counsel written opinion providing the administration’s view of the legal basis for the war in Iran, but that opinion has been locked away by the White House, and they refuse to show it to Congress.

Inflation has just hit 3.8%. The administration is saying that health insurance subsidies and food assistance for persons with disabilities, seniors, and children are unaffordable programs, but this is the same administration that has the nerve to demand $1.5 trillion from Congress for military spending.

Longtime national security reporter Noah Shactman wrote in an essay describing why Pete Hegseth’s budget request should not be trusted:

It would funnel more money to the traditional military contractors that Mr. Hegseth previously called out for feasting on a wasteful, bloated system. It would bankroll President Trump’s weirdly retro military wish list. On top of all that, Mr. Hegseth has asked Congress for $350 billion that would come with far less oversight or accountability than the rest of the sum.

And that’s before the bill for the Iran war comes due; the Pentagon estimates it has cost $29 billion so far, up from an estimate of $25 billion a few weeks ago.

The Trump administration wants $1.5 trillion in taxpayer dollars, and what is mindblowing is that they are hiding the legal reasoning for the Iran war from Congress.
