Trump Chickens Out On Arresting Gavin Newsom

Trump's "border czar" Tom Homan claimed that the NBC News report was dishonest and he is not out to arrest California Gov. Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass, which looks like Trump chickening out.

The Trump administration appears not to be getting the kind of chaos and conflict that they were seeking in Los Angeles when Trump deployed the National Guard in what looks like a clear effort to create a crisis and escalate a situation.

It was reported over the weekend that Trump border czar Tom Homan had threatened to arrest California Gov. Gavin Newsom, but Homan sang a different tune Monday morning on MSNBC.

Homan said when he was asked about arresting Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass:

 The NBC reporter who interviewed me was very dishonest. We did a 20 minute interview and he, he cuts out a, a little clip that makes me, and, and, and takes my words outta context.

Here's what we said. And he talked about what I talked about, these people that are, uh, these protests and riot, when they cross the line, they got that, well, here's why I said, they have a right to protest. They have the First Amendment rights, but they can't cross that line. They can't cross that line of impediment.

They can't cross that line of putting their hands on officers. They can't cross the line and knowing, concealing, and here we go, because they're all federal crimes. They're all, they're in statute and they will be prosecuted. When he asked the questions that include Mayor Bass and Governor Newsom, I was clear they have to cross a line.

But they're, but they're not above the law either. If they commit a crime, then we certainly will ask for prosecution. That's what was happening. I never threatened or arrest Governor Newsom, so I'm not biting on that. It's just that reporter is dishonest. And, and let 'em play the whole 20 minute interview and you, us see a whole different, uh, uh, discussion that we had.

Homan’s comments are why Sarah is right. People need to protest, and instead of moving to the middle and finding places where Democrats can be more like MAGA, the party needs to stand up for what is right.
