Trump Is Being Called A Traitor
In the aftermath of the shocking, unprecedented and childishly embarrassing, made-for-reality-TV drama that took place in the Oval Office on Friday, Donald Trump’s loyalties to the United States and her allies have been called into question. He has even been called a traitor.
“One woman voiced her outrage about the outcome of what was to be a discussion on ending the war that Russia started in Ukraine, shouting ‘Slava Ukraine, Trump is a traitor,’ as drivers honked horns in support of Ukraine as they drove down Chicago Avenue,” CBS reported.
“Finally, Donald John Trump is a traitor to our country, to the rule of law and to the world order. He is a traitor to decency itself,” Lisa Senecal said on a Resolute Square podcast.
Rachel Maddow laid out the case last night as well.
People are reacting with extreme distress to the shocking global realignment of power after President Donald Trump and VP JD Vance attacked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by adopting Putin's language.
Trump and Vance’s attack included rewarding Russian aggression against Ukraine by accusing the victim of Russia, Zelenskyy, of gambling with World War III and not being grateful for U.S. support, as if Zelenskyy is to blame for Russia’s attack on his country.
The BBC reported that European leaders have rallied behind Zelensky, including the leaders of Germany, France, Spain, Poland and the Netherlands, meaning our allies are siding with the leader our president is attacking.
What has changed? Trump’s actions and the Republican Party’s actions are what changed. They have aligned themselves with Putin, causing a traumatic, concerning, global realignment of power.
This is most definitely not normal.
In fact, LBC host Tom Swarbrick, a former adviser to conservative Prime Minister Theresa May, said, “I have never in my life heard anything remotely close to what we have just witnessed. We have just witnessed history. We have just witnessed something that is closer to Jerry Springer over war on the European continent. Honestly, speechless.”
Trump Denies
It was so obvious that even Trump felt the need to insist that he was not "aligned with Putin," but instead was aligned "with the US and good of the world.”
Is he, though? His actions say otherwise, and so do the reactions.
The meeting exposed a deep political divide, with Republicans generally supporting Putin/Trump/Vance, while European leaders and many U.S. allies backed Zelenskyy.
Thus, our allies back Zelenskyy and our president is on our adversary’s side.
Furthermore, Trump’s protestations are hard to buy, because his alliance with Putin is hardly new. After all, former British Prime Minister Sir John Major accused Trump of realigning America away from Europe while “cuddling up” to Putin's Moscow weeks before this meeting.
