The Washington Post Joins Trump's Media Oligarchy
After The Washington Post killed editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes's editorial cartoon satirizing big tech and media execs groveling to Trump, the newspaper is under the thumb of an oligarch.

The Washington Post Shows Its True Colors
Criticism of owner Jeff Bezos and other billionaires who are buying off Donald Trump is apparently not allowed at The Washington Post. The once proud newspaper that was the stuff of legend and gold standard, whose name was synonymous with fearless journalism that held the powerful accountable, has been reduced to pandering to the whims of its billionaire owner who in turn is pandering to Donald Trump.
Editorial cartoonist, Ann Telnaes quit The Washington Post and told readers why on her Substack:
I’ve worked for the Washington Post since 2008 as an editorial cartoonist. I have had editorial feedback and productive conversations—and some differences—about cartoons I have submitted for publication, but in all that time I’ve never had a cartoon killed because of who or what I chose to aim my pen at. Until now.
The cartoon that was killed criticizes the billionaire tech and media chief executives who have been doing their best to curry favor with incoming President-elect Trump.
…
The group in the cartoon included Mark Zuckerberg/Facebook & Meta founder and CEO, Sam Altman/AI CEO, Patrick Soon-Shiong/LA Times publisher, the Walt Disney Company/ABC News, and Jeff Bezos/Washington Post owner.
…
As an editorial cartoonist, my job is to hold powerful people and institutions accountable. For the first time, my editor prevented me from doing that critical job.
The cartoon was killed because it tried to hold the billionaires accountable for their takeover of the federal government by paying off Donald Trump. It wasn’t killed for any other reason.
Journalists and cartoonists are being prevented from doing their jobs at outlets that are owned by billionaires because corporate media is more about carrying out the agendas of ownership than informing the American people.
This is not a story just about The Washington Post. It is about the destruction of the role of the free press in a democracy.
The Damage Being Done To The Flow Of Information Will Outlast Trump
