The Supreme Court Shows How Out Of Touch They Are At Trump Immunity Hearing
The Supreme Court justices talked about hypotheticals and potential future scenarios for hours, but what they didn't discuss was the Trump insurrection.

Nine Justices Managed To Miss The Point
The problem with decision-making bodies that have lifetime appointments and no accountability mechanisms is that they are highly prone to not seeing the forest through the trees. An example of this behavior was on display during the Trump immunity hearing.
Somehow, the Justices, liberal and conservative, spend three hours debating hypotheticals and future presidencies without actually talking about the reason why everyone was there.
The Justices didn’t talk about the former president, the insurrection that he led, the crimes he was charged with, and the fact that he wants to be president again.
The point of the hearing turned into an academic exercise on presidential immunity.
None of the Justices seemed overly warm to Trump’s notion of unlimited presidential immunity so that one seems off the table. SCOTUS isn’t going to give Trump a get-out-court-free card.
It was much more concerning that the concept of what Trump was asking for could end US democracy, and none of the nine Justices seemed very interested in talking about the current or future threat to our freedoms.
The Supreme Court didn’t seem to want to even broach the question that Trump could end democracy if court gave him his way.
The Justices were in a different universe. They were having an academic discussion about official versus unofficial acts, and not dealing with the ramifications of Trump’s idea that the president has unlimited immunity that would even cover assassinating political rivals.
It was all pretty mindblowing, although not totally surprising.
The obliviousness of the court also did not go unnoticed, as we will get into below.
