The Pentagon In Disarray
From the moment Pete Hegseth was nominated to be Secretary of Defense, alarms were raised and warnings went out. Hegseth was wildly unqualified, having never worked at the Pentagon or led an organization of any substantial size. There were the personal red flags of allegations of abuse, sexual assault, and rape along with alcoholism and drinking on the job.
However, Hegseth had two things going for him. He was on Fox News and completely loyal to Donald Trump.
Senate Republicans in one of their first gestures of surrender, that showed they would be doing no oversight, squeaked Hegseth through with VP JD Vance breaking a 50/50 confirmation vote tie.
Bloomberg reported on what is happening at the Pentagon with Hegseth in charge:
Pete Hegseth’s former spokesman said the Pentagon has been overwhelmed by staff drama and turnover in the initial months of the second Trump administration, calling it a “full-blown meltdown” that could cost the defense secretary his job.
The warning from John Ullyot, who resigned last week after briefly serving as Pentagon spokesman, followed statements by three top Defense Department officials who were reportedly fired amid an inquiry into leaks and said they weren’t told what they were being investigated for or if there was even a leaks probe ongoing at all.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt went on Fox News on Monday morning to defend Hegseth and say, “This is what happens when the entire Pentagon is working against you and working against the monumental change that you are trying to implement.”
The White House then had the Defense Department repost the video of Leavitt’s claim that the Pentagon is working against Hegseth on its X account.
Next, we will discuss the life-and-death consequences of chaos at the Pentagon.
