I cannot say this better than you Ms Sparks. Well stated. Main stream media is whitewashing on a grand scale - again! After the tragic death of Charlie Kirk, my daughter and I listened to several excerpts from his public appearances. Sadly, I was forced to conclude that Mr Kirk raised the temperature in America. I haven’t read a comment from a single progressive writer or politician that approves Mr Kirk’s violent death. At the same time, conservatives- especially Republicans- green light the bashing of Democrats “across the board”. How is that going to help healing and reduction of violence in the USA?
Absolutely correct. Once again the left is being put on the defensive by the media. No one is pointing out the violence in Kirks writing and and commentary.
It's never been more evident that the media is in the pocket of the Trump regime, and there it will remain until it starts to negatively impact their bottom line. What I find even more reprehensible is that, despite the fact that a MAGA-groomed suspect is in custody and statistics show that gun deaths are overwhelmingly perpetrated by the Right, right-wingers like Meghan McCain continue to blame the Left for the violence that is ripping this country apart.
"The Media" "The Media" "The Media" Everyone keeps talking about "THE MEDIA." All media is not the same. There are some people in "The Media" who are NOT whitewashing Kirk's legacy of violent rhetoric. They ARE showing his quotations and ARE pointing out the violence in his rhetoric. But others are calling for their firing and some are even being fired for telling the truth. Let's applaud those who are speaking out about Kirk's support of the ideology that caused his death and call out those who demand they be fired.
I actually think the press has been too focused on Kirk's rhetoric. I saw some of his points as being valid actually, though I found his approach unhealthy, aggressive, and void of the civility of civil discourse. It was all about him being right and his political opponents being wrong. I also disagreed with a lot of what he said. Honestly, this shouldn't matter: I don't condone cold-blooded murder, no matter who the victim is. The focus should be on the very real and very urgent problem of the lack of common-sense gun control in far too many areas of the United States. I have to say though, he shouldn't be honored as a martyr or a politician. He was a popular commentator and his death is a tragedy. I absolutely think the assassination was horrific and unacceptable. But violence shouldn't lead to more violence and spite from either party. That never does anyone any good.
Thanks to Sarah Jones for honesty. Ezra Klein’s excellent reputation is well deserved but his op-ed praising Kirk was dangerous precisely because of Klein’s reputation. When disinformation abounds, those in Klein’s position have an added responsibility to inform accurately.
I did know about Charlie Kirk until he was shot. I am totally not in favor of any violence towards people speaking about their beliefs. So after hearing about the shooting, I did some research on Kirk and his beliefs. Personally I now think he was a jerk! I can’t believe the negativity he spouted….especially with college students. And that they appeared to like him. (At reported by the “media”?) Violence like that is never right! Not only in America, but everywhere!!!

The media has clearly allowed whitewashing of the Kirk’s legacy of violent rhetoric. They will be held accountable.

Is the media going to show Charlie Kirk quotations the way they do MLK or the not-insane Kennedys? Isn't that what they do for posterity?

The irony is that Mr. Kirk’s supporters vigorously defend the right to speech. It appears that defense of speech is for those who agree with them.
Great piece btw.
