The Republican Party has never won a government shutdown. For the party in total control to shut down the government, and then blame the minority power that has no power, has taken the step on the rake and get smacked in the face strategy of the GOP to a new level.

The other mistake that Republicans have never learned from is that they keep trying to take healthcare away from people. Republicans have gotten it into their heads that the American people don’t want affordable healthcare, and they continue to tell themselves that if they keep talking badly about Obamacare while trying to break the program, voters will eventually agree with them.

In the 15 years since Obamacare became law, disagreement with the Republican position has continued to grow, but as a party, the GOP is still in the same place as it was in 2010, and all of these factors help to explain new data on the government shutdown from Navigator Research.

Navigator Research found in their latest weekly tracking poll that more Americans are hearing about the shutdown, and they are blaming Trump:

The government shutdown is still top of mind for Americans. Three quarters of respondents are hearing at least some news about the government shutdown, similar to 75 percent from our tracking last week. Awareness is slightly lower among independents at 62 percent. This week’s tracking finds a 9-point uptick in awareness among passive news consumers, 66 percent of whom have now heard a lot or some about shutdown.
