The Blood Of The Next Person Killed By ICE Will Be On Republican Hands

If Republicans refuse to reform ICE and DHS, Democrats are making it clear that the blood of the next innocent American killed by the Trump administration will be on their hands.

An important element of Democrats refusing to fund the Department of Homeland Security that is being missed by many in politics and media is that it is a tool to do more than cut off the money supply to Homeland Security.

Democrats are trying to get Republicans to the table to pass reforms to DHS and ICE. Democrats are in the congressional minority. They don’t have the votes to pass reforms on their own. They will need Republican support, especially if Trump threatens a veto.

The third piece of this puzzle is that Democrats are voting to cut off funding to ICE, so that Republicans will own any future violence and harm that might come to the American people due to the GOP’s refusal to force DHS to follow the law.

Sen. Adam Schiff recently brought up this point and said he would not vote to give ICE or the Border Patrol another dime.

Schiff said:

Well, I’m not giving ICE or border patrol another dime given how these agencies are operating. Democrats are not going to fund that. The government will shut down if Republicans insist that that be joined with other government funding. It will be a Republican decision. They understand we’re not going to go along with this. And we hope some of the Republicans in the Senate may see those scenes in the streets and be as repelled as we are and vote against that continuation of violence also.
