The American People Are Donating Their Food And Rent Money To Support Texas Democrats
Texas House Minority Leader Gene Wu said on Saturday that the Democrats fighting for democracy are being supported by people who are donating their food and rent money to help them.

Texas Democrats are changing the rules of engagement, and by volunteering to be the tip of the spear in the fight for democracy, they are incurring immense personal and financial expense. Members of the Texas legislature are only paid $600/month plus a per diem when they are in session. These legislators have other jobs that many of them probably can’t work at if they are out of the state to deny Republicans a quorum to pass their gerrymandered congressional district map.
As I pointed out in my most recent video, this is like a strike, except the Texas Democrats are on strike to protect democracy for us all.
I called for a democracy fund to be set up to support the Texas Democrats, and it turns out that many Americans are stepping up to help.

Texas House Minority Leader Gene Wu said on MSNBC’s Velshi:
I think the most important thing to take away from this is to see this as the just absolute desperation that Abbott and others have. Why is John Cornyn involved? Because he's in the political fight for his life. Why is Ken Paxton involved? Because he's in the political fight for his life. Abbott, same thing. They know what is coming in 2026. They are trying to look as tough as possible to their voters and to their primary voters. And it's not going to work.
All these things like the lawsuits trying to silence Beto O'Rourke, our money doesn't come from just Beto. Our money comes from people across the United States in $5 and $10 increments. Donations are coming in from Americans across the United States because they see the danger that this poses. They see the evil that is at play here. They see the destruction of their own nation for their benefit, and they are not going to stand up for it.
They are helping us in any way we can. We have people saying that they're foregoing, like they're not going to have a meal. They're going to not pay their debt payments. They may not make their rent because they're going to give us their $5 or $10 at a time. We're fighting for the American people and they know it.
The American people are standing up to support these Democrats, which is very bad news for Trump and his party. If people are willing to give up the money that they would spend on food or housing to stand up for democracy, those same people are going to show up to vote next year.
Rep. Wu was right. Republicans know what is coming next year. If Trump and his party thought that they were in a position to win, they would not be trying to gerrymander red states.
One of the most important developments to evolve since Trump returned to office is that many Americans aren’t looking for someone to lead them. Many Democrats have stopped supporting a Democrat to lead them. They are acting as their own leaders.
The Texas House Democratic Caucus has donate buttons on their website. People can give directly to them on their own site.
People are responding because they see these Democrats fighting for them. As I pointed out in my video, if every person who voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 donated one dollar, the Texas Democrats would have enough money to outlast Greg Abbott, Donald Trump, and the state’s Republicans.
The Texas Democrats make $600/month when they are in session. Being in the Texas state legislature is not a full-time job, and all these members have day jobs. Some of them can still work, but many of them can’t.
Many Americans are stepping up, as their support provides hope that the country will overcome Trump and his party.

It’s definitely going to take money and a lot of groundwork for us to save our democracy! I’ve been donating and will continue to do what I can to support these leaders of democracy ❤️
I deleted the Act Blue link that is not the link to directly support the Texas Democrats. The donation button for the Texas Democrats is on the Texas House Democratic Caucus website. Third parties like Act Blue take a cut of donations. —Jason
