Texas Man 'Destroys' Republicans for Rigging Elections for Trump
“You're breaking the rules. We are the citizens of this country. You know it's wrong. In your heart, you know it's wrong,” a Texas man told Republicans during a hearing on the map proposal.

Texas Republicans have drawn up a new map to give Donald Trump the extra five seats he demanded in an attempt to maintain control of the U.S. House after the midterms, and the public is not happy about it.
“You're breaking the rules. We are the citizens of this country…You know it's wrong. In your heart, you know it's wrong,” a Texas man told Republicans during a hearing on the map proposal.
The crowd went wild when he asked how many of them were going to be arrested for breaking the rules.
Watch here:
The man blasted Republicans for rigging maps to find Trump five seats, and called them out on their claim that they didn’t have maps yet (mysteriously, they suddenly found maps).
“I drove here three hours to get here. I came from Abilene, Texas, and I'm gonna, if I'm willing to drive three hours to come here and talk, I'm gonna ask you to get off your phone and listen to what I have to say.”
“You got a call from Donald Trump. He told you to go find five seats. No, he got asked how many seats? He said five. He was asked on the news.”
“You say we don't have any maps? Well, the hell in the hell does Donald Trump know he's going to get five seats? I bet you anything there's maps that are there. This is ridiculous.”
“A man a few days ago was arrested because he spoke too long at this at the lectern. He spoke too long, and you all said, ‘Oh, he had to be arrested because he broke the rules.’ How many of you are going to get arrested for breaking the rules, of mistreating the citizens of this country - state?”
“You're breaking the rules. We are the citizens of this country. We're the ones. It's supposed to be bottom up, not top down. I'm gonna say this one thing to you. You know it's wrong. In your heart, you know it's wrong.”
The Texan was right about those maps being ready, too. The maps were released on Wednesday, less than a day after the public hearings concluded. So Republicans misled the public about that, as well.
“The unveiling of the map came less than a day after public hearings concluded before committees of the Texas Legislature. Nearly all the testimony from Texans at the hearings was strongly opposed to the effort,” The New York Times reported on Wednesday (my bold).
Many Others Spoke Up, Too
It turns out, he was hardly alone, which is odd given that Governor Abbott is spinning ‘finding 5 seats’ for Trump as their work to “maximize the ability of Texans to be able to vote for the candidate of their choice.”
Maybe Abbott meant the people are free to choose, but only if their candidate is Republican. Texas liberty: ‘You must choose one of these here Republicans.’
Indeed, Texas residents are decrying the Republican proposal as ‘rig-districting’.’
“Texas residents oppose proposed redistricting plans, citing unfairness and political motives during public hearing at the State Capitol”:
Republicans’ new map will give them control of nearly 80% of the delegation in a state Trump carried with just 56% of the vote.
“(T)he new map, proposed by the State House in consultation with the National Republican Redistricting Trust, a Washington-based group, could well give Republicans control of 30 of the state’s 38 House seats, putting nearly 80 percent of the delegation in Republican control. In the 2024 election, Mr. Trump carried the state with 56 percent of the vote,” NYT continued.
The Republican proposal aims to give them five extra U.S. House seats diluting diversity coalition areas, drawn to target existing Democratic members of Congress, including to pit them against one another, in areas like Central Texas, Dallas, Houston, and South Texas.
“This unusual mid-decade redistricting comes after a pressure campaign waged by President Donald Trump’s political team in the hopes of padding Republicans’ narrow majority in the U.S. House,” the Texas Tribune reported.
“The proposed map splits voters of color in Tarrant County among multiple neighboring Republican districts and changes the shape of the 35th District in Central Texas, which was originally created as a result of a court order to protect the voting rights of people of color.”
The Tribune explained that Republicans are increasingly counting on the Hispanic vote, “among whom they made historic gains in 2024. Four of the five districts that Republicans have drawn with the intention of flipping would be majority Hispanic — though the Hispanic populations in the new seats in Houston and Central Texas are almost exactly 50%.”
Not Both Sides
The gerrymander is one reason why we don’t have the kind of gun control that a majority of Americans want. It has allowed our country to be ruled by increasingly extremist factions, largely on the side of the Republican Party especially during the Trump decade. Democrats keep moving to the center, Republicans keep moving to the right.
The corruption is out here in broad daylight, they’re not even ashamed or embarrassed one bit that they have to cheat so hard to “win” elections.
And no, “both sides” don’t do it the same.
“Yes, both sides gerrymander. But that doesn’t mean they are equal-opportunity offenders. Republicans pretty clearly benefit more from gerrymandering, and there’s an increasingly strong case to be made that they go further in using the tools available to them. Gambits like what Texas is doing are rare, and it’s been Republicans who have led the charge,” Aaron Blake wrote in analysis for CNN titled: “No, both sides don’t gerrymander the same.”
Texas Republicans are seizing control of a state that has been getting closer and closer to purple over the years. They’re going to control Texas like they control women’s bodies: Against the will of the people, and with reckless disregard for democracy.
In terms of Democrats finally getting the clue that they can’t keep asking politely for Republicans to stop attacking democracy, they aren’t in a great position to fight back on gerrymandering for a few reasons.
Republicans “have more plausible gerrymandering targets than Democrats,” Kyle Kondik wrote on Center for Politics. Kondik explains that Democrats face more complicated processes in the states where they’re talking about potentially fighting back, whereas “Republicans appear to have easier opportunities for drawing new gerrymanders than Democrats. Ohio was already set to likely produce a better map for Republicans, and there are other options too. “
One of the hurdles Democrats face is the independent commissions many have championed for years.
Independent commissions have always seemed like the best, fairest, most representative way of doing district maps, but now they are standing in the way of a remedy to yet another blatant power grab by Donald Trump’s party.
Extremist Attacks on Our Country
Most of us have never wanted a country run purely by extremists and corrupt partisanship, but rather hold the principles of democracy above any partisan alliance.
However, we can no longer afford to have high principles from which we won’t budge, even as the Trump administration is kidnapping people off the streets without due process, and sending them to what have been referred to as ‘concentration camps’.
We are in a five-alarm fire situation, because if Republicans keep power after the midterms, we can be certain that we won’t see them returning any of the power they are corruptly stealing from the people and from this country.
“If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. The will reject democracy,” conservative Republican David Frum (who left the GOP after Trump won 2024) warned in Trumpocracy: The Corruption of the American Republic.
Conservatives have officially rejected democracy, and want elections only for show now, with the public free to choose a Republican candidate who will lick the boots of Donald Trump.
They know it’s wrong, and they don’t care. They aren’t bothered one bit.
