Sunday Disaster As Interior Secretary Falls Apart Faster Than Trump's Reflecting Pool Renovation
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum was sent out to sell the Reflecting Pool vandalism story, but it was the Interior Secretary who came out damaged.
There is a method to this madness. The constant chatter about communism coming from the president and the White House is about more than Republicans attempting to exploit and enflame what they hope are divides within the Democratic Party.

This is the same playbook that worked for Trump and his party in 2024, when Democrats blew an election against Trump because they became divided about Joe Biden remaining in the presidential race.
The only way that Republicans could win the 2026 midterm election is if Democrats become divided and dysfunctional, but this is only half of the picture.
The Trump administration is also trying to make the midterm election about something other than Donald Trump, and that is where the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool enters the story.
On Sunday, the Trump administration deployed Doug Burgum to the Sunday shows to spread its story that the Reflecting Pool was vandalized.
Burgum said:
Well, the algae is all gone. I mean, that was a momentary thing. As they -- as it was being refilled, there was algae in the pipes. But the new technology, the nano-bubblers that have been installed, if you go down there today and look at it, it is completely clean and clear.
And so for the first time there's actual an solution that involves making sure that we have got an algae-free pond. It keeps being reported that this was paint. It was not paint. This was an industrial liner that was put into the pool for the very first time, multiple layers fixing, 2.5 miles of expansion.
CNN’s State Of The Union’s Dana Bash asked, “But it peeled off. Why did that happen? Do you know?”
