Samuel Alito and his secret gifts from a GOP billionaire
ProPublica dropped yet another U.S. Supreme Court scandal bomb on us, this time it’s Justice Samuel Alito taking undisclosed luxury travel gifts with and from a Republican hedge fund billionaire who had “repeatedly asked the Supreme Court to rule in his favor in high-stakes business disputes.”
In 2008, for example, Alito reportedly traveled with Paul Singer, who “flew Alito to Alaska on a private jet. If the justice chartered the plane himself, the cost could have exceeded $100,000 one way.” He stayed at a “luxury fishing lodge that charged more than $1,000 a day.”
Like one does.
Unless one is a justice, and is required to disclose such things like the gift of private travel in case they might appear biased. But surely even though Alito didn’t disclose this, he recused himself from Singer’s business before the Supreme Court?
