Senate Republicans Faceplanted Into Democrats' Iran War Trap
If Republicans lose their Senate majority in November, their decision to block a war powers resolution that would limit Trump in Iran will be a reason why.
Each time that Senate Republicans have been given a choice to break with Trump’s unpopular policies or support the sinking president, they have chosen to go down with Trump.

The Senate voted on a war powers resolution that would limit the duration and Trump’s powers in Iran. The resolution itself was not expected to pass, and even if it did pass the House and Senate, the president would veto it, and Democrats would not have the votes to override a veto.
However, Republicans should be smarter than what they are displaying in the House and Senate.
Democrats are aching to get Republicans on the record as supporting Trump’s deeply unpopular war in Iran.
Republicans could have supported the war powers resolution, or they could have offered up their own authorization for Trump to use force in Iran.
Republicans could have stood up with the American people or lined up behind Trump.
Guess which choice Republicans made?
