Trump Is So Desperate For Money That He Is Openly Selling US Policy
It is common knowledge that Donald Trump is broke, drowning in legal debt, and struggling to raise money for his presidential campaign. Trump’s legal and financial situations have been flagged by experts as a danger to national security because Trump might do anything for the cash that he needs to help him avoid prison.
It has long been suspected that the ex-president and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, sold access to US foreign policy to foreign governments during the first Trump administration.
Foreign governments tried to grease Trump’s palms by using his former DC hotel as way to slip him cash because the ex-president continued to run his business while in the White House. There is also an allegation that has been made in a lawsuit that Trump and Rudy Giuliani sold pardons and split the cash.
Until this week, there had not been any direct evidence that Trump was selling US policy, but all of that has changed.
As Donald Trump sat with some of the country’s top oil executives at his Mar-a-Lago Club last month, one executive complained about how they continued to face burdensome environmental regulations despite spending $400 million to lobby the Biden administration in the last year.
Trump’s response stunned several of the executives in the room overlooking the ocean: You all are wealthy enough, he said, that you should raise $1 billion to return me to the White House. At the dinner, he vowed to immediately reverse dozens of President Biden’s environmental rules and policies and stop new ones from being enacted, according to people with knowledge of the meeting, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a private conversation.
Giving $1 billion would be a “deal,” Trump said.
The fact that Trump said this out loud directly to a group of Big Oil executives who then confirmed the story to the media is a sign that Trump is so desperate that he has gotten sloppy.
We have seen this behavior before from Trump. After he lost the 2020 election, Trump became desperate to stay in power, which led to his sloppiness in trying to stage a coup.
Big Oil has gone as far as to write American energy policy for Trump in a series of ready to sign executive orders that have been drafted by the industry in case Trump returns to the White House.
All of this has caught the attention of Senate Democrats, and they have a response that should put any Trump deal with Big Oil on ice.
