Sen. Reuben Gallego Calls Out Speaker Johnson For Protecting Pedophiles
At a press conference, Sen. Reuben Gallego said that Speaker Johnson hasn't sworn in Adelita Grijalva because he is protecting pedophiles.
The Arizona Attorney General has given Speaker Mike Johnson two days to swear in Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva or face a lawsuit from the state.
Sen. Reuben Gallego and Sen. Mark Kelly recently confronted Speaker Johnson and asked him why Grijalva had not been sworn in yet. Johnson danced and dodged around the issue while he refused to commit to swearing the Rep.-elect in, but he did make it clear that he was holding the newest Democratic member’s ability to take her seat hostage as part of the government shutdown.

Johnson told the Senators, “ We’re happy that she got elected. She’s filling her father’s seat. That’s fantastic. We have a long tradition here and a process of how we administer the oath to a member. You know, you served here for a while. Uh, we’re gonna do that as soon as we get back to work, but we need the lights turned back on. So we encourage both of you to go open the government.”
Since then, Johnson did nothing, which is why the Arizona AG threatened to sue after the special House election was certified on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Democrats in the Arizona congressional delegation held a press conference where they were even more blunt about why Johnson has so far refused to swear in Grijalva.
