Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was as disgusted as all humanity with Senator Mike Lee’s (R-UT) depraved mocking of the assassination of a Democratic Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, and the attempted assassinations of another Democratic Minnesota lawmaker and his wife, while the suspect was still on the run and had a manifesto targeting many lawmakers and other officials.
Lee suggested that the Trump supporter was into “Marxism,” despite reports from a roommate and online videos that he supported Donald Trump and was an anti-abortion conservative.
In another post, Lee mocked the fact that the assassin posed as law enforcement, posting an image of the suspect knocking on a victim’s door just before one of the shootings reading, “Nightmare on Waltz Street” because Republicans tried desperately to tie the assassin to Democrat Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
The number of likes just goes to show how toxic Elon Musk’s platform is.
Schumer lambasted Lee, saying, “Most of all, when violence strikes, the answer is for us to come together, regardless of party. That’s especially important for U.S. Senators. Sadly, we didn’t see that this weekend.”
“I wish I didn’t have to say this, but I was deeply disappointed and sickened to see a member of this chamber use the tragedy in Minnesota to take cheap political shots at the other side on social media, and risk escalating a perilous moment,” Schumer continued in floor remarks.
“What the Senior Senator from Utah posted after the shooting was reckless and beneath the dignity of his office. For a Senator to fan the flames of division with falsities, while the killer was still on the loose, is deeply irresponsible. He should take his posts down and immediately apologize to the families of the victims,” the Democratic Senator said.
Schumer tried to appeal to Lee’s decency (which is going to go nowhere because — surprise! Lee doesn’t have any, much like the entire MAGA movement which is based on being shameless and led by a convicted felon), saying, “And this isn’t even about politics. This is about simple human decency.”
Yeah, there is no decency available within the MAGA movement. They made sure of that in the second term by only installing loyalists to Trump himself over the Constitution and even over basic freedom.
Schumer tried to appeal to their better angels, saying we are all human beings and the victims leave behind kids “who now will never speak to their parents ever again.”
A moment of silence for the space where MAGA Republicans are supposed to show that they care so much about children. Crickets? No apology Mr. Lee?
Schumer then urged every one of his colleagues to condemn political violence. That also won’t happen.
“So, I say to my colleagues – now is the time to speak with moral clarity. Every single one of us must condemn political violence no matter where it comes from, and to work together to eradicate its root causes.”
But Schumer did add that to be silent ENABLES more violence, which is not only true, but a lambasting warning shot for those who remain silent, “We cannot be silent, because silence only serves to enable more violence.”

Donald Trump is enabling and fomenting violence on purpose. It’s what he has always done, his entire life. The thug life is Don Trump. He’s your basic street thug who by chance of being born to Fred Trump was a millionaire by age 8, according to the New York Times. Trump admitted in a sworn deposition that he borrowed $9.6 million from his father's estate. If not for being given the status of millionaire by his father’s hard work, Trump would be behind bars like any other broke felon.
Donald Trump not only brings out the worst in his base and the Republican Party, but he stirs the pot with chaos and lies and setting up competitions so that people become an even worse version of themselves than they even knew existed. He is trying to destroy this country, but the people roared back on Saturday.
The People do not consent to being ruled by a petty tyrant whose violent rhetoric keeps getting people killed yet he does not even try to tamp it down. He doesn’t try to hold it back because it’s getting the result he wants.

Shame on Lee. Isn’t he an LDS church member? Perhaps his bishop should ring him up for a lesson in empathy and compassion.
Lee should be expelled. He helped enable January 6th and belongs in jail. He is another MAGA monster and Walz should find a way to sue his ass for defamation, although the speech and debate clause would probably save Lee. It seems he posted some kind of phony condolences on his official account and the ugly stuff on his personal account.
