Republicans Plot to Lie about Abortion
Republican strategists warned their party that they need to EXPLAIN their position on abortion by misleading voters more. You see, somehow voters got it into their heads that "pro-life" is extremist.

After getting slapped down and rejected yet again over their abortion policies, Republicans came up with a brilliant plan: Instead of changing their policy, they’ll LIE harder about it. They believe they just need to EXPLAIN it more to the little ladies who don’t understand their own autonomy.
Republican strategists are urging Congressional candidates to campaign *against* a national abortion ban. That is to say, to campaign against the thing that they said they were going to do.
Republicans need to mansplain abortion some more
To win voters minds and hearts, Republican men need to mansplain abortion MORE to women.
“GOP strategists urge congressional candidates to campaign against a national abortion ban. Disturbed by tough election losses, Republicans say the party needs to make its position clearer to voters in speeches and TV ads to win competitive races,” Sahil Kaput reported for NBC.
“Influential Republicans are circulating polling and focus groups that show their abortion message is failing badly. And that voters now believe "pro-life" means banning all abortions without exception... which they're pleading with candidates to combat.”
“Three GOP sources told NBC News that party operatives fighting to win control of Congress are making a concerted push Wednesday to encourage Republicans to make clear to voters, in speeches and TV ads, that they don’t favor a national ban on all abortions.”
The plan? To EXPLAIN to women that their abortion bans aren’t really bans and to lie and fear-monger about Democrats’ policy, which itself was already based on the compromise between anti-abortion and pro-freedom factions that became Roe.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee “is encouraging Republicans to clearly state their opposition to a national abortion ban and their support for reasonable limits on late-term abortions when babies can feel pain with exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother,” said a source familiar with NRSC strategy. “They are encouraging candidates to contrast that position with Democrats’ support for taxpayer-funded abortion without limits.”
Reality
Democrats do not support taxpayer-funded abortions. In fact, this is prohibited by the Hyde amendment.
Democrats do not support abortion without limits.
So these are two lies that Republicans are being urged to use MORE. They’ve already been running them up every cable news hit they can get and it didn’t work.
Oops - Republicans went on TV that very night and called for a national abortion ban
Republican presidential candidates went all in during their televised “debate” Wednesday night. Haley and DeSantis tried to dance around the abortion issue, but Tim Scott called for a national abortion ban at 15 weeks and Haley changed her tune, and the candidates lined up with a national abortion ban.
Trump ran on overturning Roe
Post Dobbs, Republican polling and focus groups on abortion found that the term “pro-life” is now viewed negatively. There was a big change in perception of that term… after Republicans got what they wanted when the Supreme Court justices overturned Roe.
Three of those justices were installed by Donald Trump, the leader of the entire Republican Party — who RAN on installing "pro-life justices on the court.” They helped overturn decades of precedent after they had all waxed poetic about the importance of precedent, settled law and constitutional guarantees to privacy.
The man who was found legally liable for rape years after he admitted on tape that he was a serial sexual assaulter got Roe overturned. He is also running for president at the top of the Republican ticket in 2024.
But by all means, explain to women some more because yeah, the problem most likely is that we just don’t understand our own bodies, basic freedom, and autonomy.
