Republicans Have Massive Midterm Election Problems
Republicans aren't interested in showing up to vote and Trump's effort to stop mail-in voting gets blocked by an appeals court as the GOP's midterm election problems grow.
Republicans have been so obsessed with trying to stop people from voting that they forgot to make sure that their supporters want to vote.
According to new polling, Republican voters are not only disinterested in the midterm election, but some of them are also so angry at the state of the country that they are considering voting for Democrats.
The lack of enthusiasm is reaching deep into Republicans’ loyal base, spreading to the party’s most consistent voters — who have shown up to vote in all of the past four primaries and general elections, according to an analysis done by Americans for Prosperity Action, a conservative super PAC affiliated with billionaire Charles Koch. This new issue with the base adds to the party’s more enduring problem of turning out less-frequent voters who support Trump but often skip midterm elections.

About 1 in 5 reliable Republican base voters are at risk this November, according to Nathan Nascimento, executive director at AFP Action. Those voters in Iowa, Ohio, North Carolina, Montana, New Hampshire and Michigan are either saying they may stay home or are weighing voting for Democrats, according to their data, which is based on polling and extensive efforts to engage targeted Republican voters by knocking on their doors. The voters are primarily worried about inflation and the economy.
If 20% of Republicans don’t show up, the party will lose the House, the Senate, governorships, and state legislatures. It will be a bloodbath at every level of government.
The Republican Party’s answer is to send Trump out to motivate the base, but for every voter Trump motivates to vote for his party, he seems to motivate even more to vote for Democrats.
These numbers explain why Trump is trying to prevent people from voting, but that effort isn’t going well either.
