I left the Republican Party when Newt Gingrich became Speaker of the House. I hated his flamethrower approach to politics. I don't refer myself as a Democrat but a former Republican voter.

. And the GOP's total capitulation to Donald Trump has simply confirmed my choice to abandon the Republicans.

Thune and Speaker Johnson are a disgrace to their Country.

Thune is one of my senators and DHS secretary Noem was my governor until she was hired to become the Barbie ICE agent. I don’t talk about anything political with people here that I don’t already know where they stand. Since he took office in January, and the reality has settled in that I am now a third class citizen, the deep emotional grief of losing my voice for who knows how long, is difficult to bear.

I very much empathize with your situation. It's almost as bad here in Texas especially since our ruby red states legislature made it legal to open-carry without a license. Unless you're a felon, anyone 18 years old or older can walk around armed to the teeth.

I’m so not interested in anything that has to do with guns, but this is such a deep red, wild west state that I wouldn’t be surprised if it is legal open-carry without a license state like Texas. I envision the future looking like an old silent movie with armed combatants on both sides lined up opposite each other, bristling with guns and itching for the gun fight to start. I, for one, won’t be clapping in delight.

Why not say you're an independent? Is there some emotional reason to have some connection with the Republican party?

When you request a voting ballot in Texas you declare either as a Democrat or Republican. There is no selection for "Independent ".

It could be a trick. Take something away, bring it back and take credit for it. We’ve seen this before.

Well, Bruce, I left after Ronald Reagan made a mess of California. I'm a 3rd generation Californian & am appalled at what the republican party has become. There is no way I'd ever vote for any of them again. Their pseudo "Christian" values are not what Jesus tried to teach his followers. We are supposed to take care of each other, not try to kill each other by neglect or withdrawing funds from necessary programs. The other religions also have the care for each other tenet, so taking care of each other is not just a Christian ethic. Those ethics are being trampled upon daily, by the idiot in the white house & his minions who are spinless

The only problem with this piece of propaganda is that Democratic voter registration is shrinking while in almost every state Republican voter registration has increased. As for Obamacare, that was a conservative health care plan designed to feed us to the for-profit health care conglomerates, resulting in premium increases of up to 300% even before Trump got to it. Remember Obama's assurances that you could keep your own doctor and that premiums would not go up. Yeah so do I. https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/obama-signs-food-stamp-cut-msna263456

That was for the last election when people did not want a woman and after all the blame for inflation was put on Biden by the media and not the corporations and the Dumpster fire promised everyone everything just to get elected. Betcha big switch for the coming elections.
