Republicans are now calling for the gutting of the Justice Department, which is actually what criminals seek to do.

Anyone who has ever watched an episode of a Law & Order or a moment of true crime television shows like 48 Hours has heard a familiar refrain. The convicted perpetrator will say with an earnest face and voice that their imprisonment is unjust and wrong because the police were corrupt, or the prosecutors were corrupt, or the judge was out to get them.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted something similar on Sunday morning:

Next year, Republicans are going to launch investigations and will expose people who should be prosecuted, but Congress can’t prosecute. That is the role of the DOJ, but the DOJ is now a political arm of the Democrat party. In order to bring accountability, we must gut the DOJ.

It appears that Greene has realized that Congress can’t prosecute people, and she is upset by this fact.

Greene is also attempting to delegitimize the credible functions of law enforcement, which is something that no member of Congress should do. Elected officials who attempt to discredit law enforcement usually do so because they are looking do dismantle mechanisms of accountability.
